WA Chapter – Monthly Meeting with Guest Speaker Nigel Rogers, President of the Naval Historical Society-WA Chapter.

It is now the beginning of the new season of the Naval Historical Society-WA Chapter talks for 2024. The meetings are held on the third Monday of every month for a 6pm start at the Claremont Tennis Club.

The Naval Historical Society’s talk on Monday February 19th is about: 

HMS HOOD, WHICH WAS SUNK 83 YEARS AGO ON MAY 24th 1941

 

HMS Hood, the largest Battle Cruiser in the world at the time of its construction in 1918, was sunk 83 years ago on May 24th, 1941, by the German Battleship Bismarck.It is the 100th Anniversary of HMS Hood’s Empire Cruise and her visit to Australia, when her first port of call was Fremantle on February 27th 1924. The February 2024 monthly meeting will commemorate and remember this occasion and the 1,415 Royal Navy officers and crew who lost their lives in only three minutes when HMS Hood was sunk.

The speaker will be Nigel Rogers, the President of the Naval Historical Society-WA Chapter.

 

The talk is on Monday February 19th at 6:00pm at the Claremont Lawn Tennis Club, Shenton Road, Claremont. Parking is at the Tennis Club and in the public car park on Davies Road. There is a $5 Admin fee, and a cash bar is open before and after the talk.
