Become a volunteer

Largely unknown by the general public yet only a short ferry or bus ride from the Sydney CBD, Garden Island is one of the more interesting places to work in Sydney.

The Naval Historical Society of Australia is seeking volunteers to assist with all aspects of its role in preserving and promoting the history of the Royal Australian Navy and Garden Island.

The Society relies on the work of volunteers, men and women, for all of its day-to-day operations – both at the National office as well as the interstate Chapters.  Similarly, many volunteers in regional areas work remotely over the internet.

Interests in research, publishing, promotion, IT, sales, marketing, tour guiding and general administration are a few of the areas needing assistance.

A service background is not important.  Many volunteers from diverse backgrounds bring specialist technical and professional skills, some are retired, and yet others are willing to lend a hand to whatever needs doing.

The Society is currently open on Tuesday and Thursday each week from 9.00am to 3.00pm, and conducts tours most Thursdays.

For those seeking interesting work in great surroundings or can assist from home, we would like to talk with you. This information brief provides new volunteers with more information on the nature of work, organization and access to the Society’s Sydney office.

Please contact us by phoning +61 2 9537 0035 on either Tuesday or Thursday to arrange a visit and learn more. Alternatively send a message via our contact form.
