Gaye Travers
Gaye was born in Sydney in 1950 and studied at Sydney University before moving to Brisbane, where she has lived for the past 34 years.
She developed a desire to paint early in childhood. Her first set of oil paints was given to her by her father. She is mainly self-taught but has attended numerous community art courses. Her daughter has followed a career in fine arts.
Gaye has continued to paint in oils as a hobby throughout her life, and in earnest during her retirement. She tends to focus on the Australian landscape, including the coast but has painted a few vessels previously, but HMAS Hobart (II) was her first RAN ship. This painting was completed with the encouragement of a friend who served on the Hobart.
Gaye has exhibited in local exhibitions, but her enjoyment comes from sharing her paintings with friends and family.
