HMAS Kanimbla (l)
HMAS Kanimbla was a twin screw motor vessel operating as a passenger ship between Cairns and Fremantle. Upon the outbreak of war she was requisitioned on 5 September 1939 and converted to an Armed Merchant Cruiser. Armed Merchant Cruisers were employed in long ocean patrols for enemy raiders and blockade runners, supplementing built-for-purpose cruisers and allowing them to be released for the more arduous fleet duties.
