The inscription reads:
This bust of Lord Nelson
Presented to the Royal Australian Navy
by the
Naval Auxiliary Patrol Association NSW
Was erected in its present (sic) position
On the 22nd day of October 1955
The bust formerly stood on the Annandale NSW estate of
Commander Robert Johnston RN
Who was the first native-born Australian to join
the Royal Navy, which he did in 1805,
the year of Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar.
[Ed: This bust was removed to its present position in the lower gardens of Maritime Headquarters Sydney at HMAS KUTTABUL, from its original location in the gardens of old Fleet Headquarters Wylde Street, Potts Point (formerly the residence named Tirana – now restored to a private luxury residential property overlooking Garden Island Dockyard and Fleet Base East) in about 1990.]
