July 2015 ADV Cape Byron was loaned to the RAN for 2 years by the Australian Border Force

725 Squadron commissioned to fly MH-60R helicopters

December 18, 2014

HMAS Bundaberg was decommissioned, as beyond repair, after a fire in August 2014

November 28, 2014

HMAS Canberra III, lead ship of the Canberra class Amphibious Assault Ship (LHD), commissioned.

November 20, 2014

HMA Ships Tarakan, Labuan and Brunei were decommissioned . In July 2015 Tarakan and Brunei were gifted to The Philippines.

August 11, 2014

At 11:52am a fire, thought to be caused by a ‘blow through’ during welding activities, broke out in HMAS Bundaberg while she was on the hardstand at Aluminium Boats Australia Pty Ltd in Brisbane for refit. The fire quickly took hold spreading throughout the boat. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services brought the blaze under control at around 15:44pm but by that time, the damage to the boat was extensive

End of operation RENDER SAFE, an annual, Australian-led operation to help remove the explosive remnants of World War II (WWII) from the South West Pacific during which HMAS Labuan II was deployed and during which some 10,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance were located and either destroyed or made safe.

HMAS Choules commissioned into the RAN. The ship originally entered service with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary on 28 November 2006 as RFA Largs Bay (L3006)

HMAS Toowoomba II departed Australia for the Middle East region under Operation SLIPPER. HMAS Toowoomba II was Navy’s 50th individual ship deployment to the Middle East region since 1990

Death of Chief Petty Officer Claude Choules at age 110. Born on 3 March 1901 Choules was at the time of his death was the oldest combat veteran of the First World War from England, having served with the Royal Navy from 1915 until 1926. After emigrating to Australia he served with the Royal Australian Navy, from 1926 until 1956. Choules was honoured with the commissioning of the Landing Ship Dock, HMAS Choules on 13 December 2011.

HMAS Canberra II was scuttled in 28 metres of water off Ocean Grove, Victoria to create an artificial reef and diving site.

HMAS Toowoomba II departed for the Middle East region. Toowoomba’s deployment was the Navy’s 45th individual ship deployment to the Middle East region since 1990

Whilst transiting the ‘Internationally Recognised Transit Corridor’ in the Gulf of Aden, HMA Ships Sydney IV and Ballarat II came to the assistance of a merchant vessel, MV Dubai Princess, which was under attack from pirates in two small skiffs.
