Commander Franki has had an incredible career. Joining the Polish army as a boy; 25 years in the Polish navy including 6 years of war in WWII in European waters and seventeen years in the Merchant Navy retiring at the age of 80.

The honours which he has received speak for themselves and fill the gaps in this brief history:

  • Awarded the Polish Cross of Valour – (four times, once as a teenager in the Army.)
  • British Distinguished Service Cross – (for operations in Norway and at Dunkirk/Calais.)
  • Polish Cross of Merit – (twice: once before and once after WWII.)
  • Polonea Restituta Cross
  • Numerous Polish, English and French Campaign Stars.

[The “Review” thanks the Polish Consul General, Sydney, for some of the material in this article.]
