Dear Editor,
I thoroughly enjoyed the March 2013 edition of the Review, thank you. I think it’s your best to date but I beg to take issue with a couple of details.
I don’t doubt that ‘Uncle Bill’ Kinnersley served in HMS Constance but the photograph on page 7 is not that of her: that’s the Caroline, a half-sister. Both were C-Class light cruisers, of which there were 28, constructed in seven batches. Caroline, now preserved in Belfast, was the lead ship of her sub-class but Constance belonged to the Cambrian batch. Close – but no cigar.
The photograph on page 27 of a ‘US Air Force bomber’ is mis-captioned. There was no US Air Force until 18 September, 1947. In March 1943, the bombing of Nauru was conducted by the US Army Air Forces.
