Commodore ‘Toz’ Dadswell AM RAN Rtd, one of the stalwarts of the 1946 Cook Year, has picked us up on a few errors in an article published in the September 2023 edition of this magazine Getting in and out of the Naval College. In particular, we are reminded that four of these gallant gentlemen remain upstanding and in addition to the sprightly ‘Toz’ they are Julian Barry, Max Brennan and Peter Rae.
Our research functions are also remiss, noting that Bob Simmonds hailed from Western Australia and not New South Wales. This changes the numbers with seven coming from NSW and two from WA.
Finally, we said the written entrance examinations were held in each state capital in November; this should have been August, with successful candidates from the written examinations being invited to medicals and interviews in Melbourne later in the year.
We thank the good Commodore for pointing out these errors and apologise for any misunderstandings.
