Re your article in the March issue. I received such a surprise to read about the trip to Gallipoli in 1936 that I had to pen a reply. As you quoted, “An unforgettable experience”. I would like to say that we had the good fortune to see the beach and surrounding countryside in real pristine condition and could really understand and appreciate the hardship and valour that went into the campaign.
As I read the place names where the fighting occurred, I relived the day of our visit.
Today, I imagine the cemeteries and graves are looking quiet, serene and tidy; but can also imagine kiosks, tourists and commercial activity. My thoughts, and possibly your own thoughts, are deeper, and we realise the true meaning of ANZAC.
