I read with some interest the review of Norm Rivett’s History of the Garden Island Chapel. The reviewer makes mention of there being three of the RAN’s (Fleet) Colours laid up in the chapel, however those listed are incorrect; they should in fact be: George V, QE II (White Ensign) and QE II (AWE). The whereabouts of the George VI Colour, though it was presented to the Fleet in late 1937, is unknown. The Navy’s present Colours are held by Fleet Headquarters and HMAS Cerberus on behalf of the RAN with the remaining Colours, those presented to the Establishments, laid up in St Marks Chapel at HMAS Cerberus.

Editor’s note: as the author of The History of the Sovereign’s Colours in the RAN, Bill Davidson is the acknowledged expert and we bow to his advice. The information in the History of the Garden Island Chapel appears correct but in this instance there has been a misunderstanding in the review of this book.
