LLOYDS PATRIOTIC FUND SWORD AT LADY DENMAN MARITIME MUSEUM Dear Sir,
Engraving on the sword reads:
“From the Patriotic Fund at Lloyds to Mr Wm. Pitt Bowler, Midshipman of HM Sloop Swift for his determined bravery when commanding a boat with only six men in boarding and carrying the Spanish schooner La Carridad Perfecta of 12 guns and 45 men under the batteries at Truxillo on the 13th August 1805 as recorded in the London Gazette of the 14th Jan 1806.” The sword is of the £30 type and is one of only 18 of that type (presented). Jervis Bay seems well blessed with Patriotic Fund swords as there is an example of the £100 type presented to Lt. W. Dawson at the Museum at HMAS CRESWELL.
Yours faithfully,
W. Halloran
