One last contribution to the subject of Australians at Zeebrugge.
In 1914 Engineer Lieutenant Ronald C. Boddie, Royal Navy, came to Australia as a member of the staff of the Royal Australian Naval College at Osborne House, Geelong.
He was involved in the move of the College to Jervis Bay and returned to the United Kingdom as a Lieutenant Commander in 1916. He was the Engineer Officer of Thetis during the raid on Zeebrugge and was made a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order for his conduct.
In the following years he served in the Royal Yacht, Victoria and Albert, was Commanding Officer of the Royal Naval Engineering College, Keyham and retired as a Rear Admiral – not Australian, but with a significant connection.
