HMCS Haida Tribal Class Destroyer, Royal Canadian Navy

July, 2019

HMCS Haida, ceremonial flagship of Royal Canadian Navy. Naval Legends image.

In 2018, HMCS Haida, a tribal-class destroyer became the ceremonial flagship of Royal Canadian Navy.

In all there were 27 Tribal Class Destroyers built for three Commonwealth Navies;

  • 16 Royal Navy
  • 3 Royal Australian Navy
  • 8 Royal Canadian Navy

HMCS Haida, once destined for the scrap heap, was recommissioned in 2018 and became the Royal Canadian Navy’s first-ever ceremonial flagship.

The Haida has an illustrious history which Canadians are justly proud of.

The 21-minute video featured below provides the history of HMCS Haida and the capabilities of the Tribal class.

The RAN’s three Tribal class destroyers were HMA Ships, Arunta, Bataan and Warramunga.
