Sea Routines – Sunday (top)

  • AS FOR DAILY ROUTINE UP TO 0529—
  • 0545 Call the hands (stand fast middle watchmen).
  • 0555 Hands to cocoa and wash.
  • 0610 ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 0615 Hands fall in (stand fast middle watchmen). Clean ship.
  • 0630 Messmen, scullery hands, drying room sweeper, regulating office writer—go below.
  • 0645 Up guard and steerage hammocks. Pipe dress of the day. Steerage hammockmen lash-up midshipmen’s hammocks.
  • 0700 Forenoon watchmen to breakfast and clean.
  • 0705 ‘Cooks’. Uncover guns.
  • 0710 Seaboat’s crew and lowerers of morning watch fall in.
  • 0715 Hands to breakfast.
  • 0740 Clear drying rooms of dry kit.
  • 0745* ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 0750 All watches for exercise. Clean messdecks and flats.
  • 0755 Seaboat’s crew and lowerers of forenoon watch to muster.
  • 0800 Seaboat’s crew and lowerers of morning watch to breakfast and clean.
  • 0850 Hands to clean.
  • 0910* ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 0915 All watches for exercise. Clear up decks.
  • 0920 ‘Guard and band’ call.
  • 0925* Officers’ call, 4 G’s. ‘Drummers’.
  • 0930 Divisions. Church. Pipe down.
  • 1115 Afternoon watchmen and seaboat’s crew and lowerers of afternoon watch to dinner.
  • 1155 Seaboat’s crew and lowerers of afternoon watch to muster.
  • 1200 Dinner.
  • THEN AS FOR DAILY SEA ROUTINE.

 

Harbour Routines – Daily (top)

  • 0500 Men under punishment lash-up and stow.
  • 0515 Call hammock stowers, duty R.P.O. and bugler. Hammock stowers to cocoa and wash.
  • 0530 Call the hands. Lash-up and stow. Men under punishment fall in.
  • 0540 Hands to cocoa and wash. Hammock stowers fall in.
  • 0550 Washing down party fall in.
  • 0555* ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 0600 Hands fall in. Clean ship. Duty boats’ crews clean their boats.
  • 0615 Up guard and steerage hammocks.
  • 0630 Q.O’s, messmen, scullery hands, drying room sweeper, regulating office writer, ship’s office messenger—go below.
  • 0645 Pipe dress of the day. Duty boats’ crews to breakfast and clean. Steerage hammockmen lash-up midshipmen’s hammocks.
  • 0700 Forenoon watchmen, duty watch of the guard, Q.O.’s and Shipwright’s yeoman to breakfast and clean. Torpedomen to quarters clean tubes.
  • 0715 ‘Cooks’. Uncover guns. Re-spread awnings.
  • 0725 Hands to breakfast and clean.
  • 0740 ‘Guard’call.
  • 0750 ‘Band’ call. Forenoon watchmen fall in for inspection. Clear drying rooms of dry kit.
  • 0815 Commander’s requestmen and defaulters.
  • 0820* ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 0825 All watches for exercise. Clean messdecks and flats.
  • 0855 ‘Guard and band’ call.
  • 0900 ‘G’. ‘Drummers’.
  • 0905 Divisions. Prayers. Physical drill. Disperse. All watches for exercise. Ten minutes after disperse—Guard fall in in the torpedo space.
  • 1030 Stand easy.
  • 1040 Out pipes. Hands carry on with their work.
  • 1105 Watchkeepers libertymen fall in.
  • 1115 Afternoon watchmen to dinner.
  • 1140* ‘Secure’.
  • 1145 All watches for exercise. Clear up decks.
  • 1150 ‘Cooks’.
  • 1200 Dinner. Pipe the leave.
  • 1230 Men under punishment fall in.
  • 1310* ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 1315 All watches for exercise.
  • 1420 Stand easy.
  • 1430 Out pipes. Hands carry on with their work.
  • 1515 First dog watchmen to tea.
  • 1540* ‘Secure’. Libertymen to clean. Special parties to clean into the rig of the day.
  • 1545 All watches for exercise. Clear up decks.
  • 1600 Evening quarters. ‘Cooks’. Tea. In winter shift night clothing, (dutymen shift night clothing at 1800).
  • 1645 Stokers to evening quarters.
  • 1700 Men under punishment fall in.
  • 1730 In winter.—Duty boats’ crews shift into night clothing.
  • 1800 In summer.— Hands shift into night clothing.
  • 1910 ‘Cooks’. In large towns. – 1850.
  • 1915 Supper. In large towns. – 1900.
  • 1955 Stand by hammocks. Steerage hammockmen sling mid-shipmen’s hammocks.
  • 2000 Men under punishment fall in.
  • 2030 Duty watch fall in. Clear up messdecks and flats. Slope awnings. Place wash-deck gear. Close ‘B’ and ‘C’ doors. Rig night boat.
  • 2050 Men under punishment, stoppage of leave, and night boat’s crew to muster.
  • 2100 Rounds.
  • 2200 Pipe down.
  • 2230 Chief and petty officers pipe down.

 

Harbour Routines – Saturday (top)

  • As FOR DAILY ROUTINE UP TO 0659—
  • 0700 Forenoon watchmen, Q.O’s., and Shipwright’s yeoman to breakfast and clean.
  • 0705 ‘Cooks’. Uncover guns. Re-spread awnings.
  • 0715 Hands to breakfast and clean.
  • 0750 Forenoon watchmen fall in for inspection. Clear drying rooms of dry kit.
  • 0810* ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 0815 All watches for exercise.
  • 1025 Stand easy. Messdeck and flat sweepers to clean.
  • 1035 Out pipes. Clear off messdecks and flats for rounds. All watches for exercise. Detail hands for ‘clean guns’. Remainder finish off upper deck.
  • 1040* ‘Officers’ call for rounds.
  • 1045 Captain’s upper deck and messdeck rounds.
  • 1105 Watchkeepers libertymen fall in.
  • 1115 Afternoon watchmen to dinner.
  • 1130 All watches of the guard clean equipment
  • 1150 ‘Cooks’.
  • 1200 Dinner. Pipe the leave. ‘Make and mend clothes’. All hands clean into the rig of the day.
  • 1245 Land libertymen. Men under punishment fall in.
  • 1310 ‘G’. Out pipes.
  • 1315 Duty watch fall in. Clear up decks. Close ‘B’ and ‘C’ doors. Detail sentries if required.
  • THEN AS FOR DAILY ROUTINE.

If ship is open to visitors until 1700, evening quarters will be at 1715.
