Garden Island Historical Tour

Visit many places rarely open to the public and learn of the important role this tiny island plays in Australia’s maritime history.

Covering 200 years of history in Sydney Harbour starting with the First Fleet in 1788 through to the present day. See the historical buildings still in use and the the tunnels in the northern hill; the change from Royal Navy to Royal Australian Navy; the attack on Sydney by Japanese midget submarines; the construction of the Captain Cook Graving Dock. See the island joined to the mainland with the Captain Cook Dock. Learn about the Kuttabul sinking in 1942.  See the changes over time and why it is not suitable for cruise ships.

PLUS NAVAL CHAPEL TOUR

Take a detailed tour of the magnificent Naval Chapel, now over 100 years old. See the stunning stained glass windows and heritage furniture. Visit the beautiful Remembrance Chapel. Hear the story about the Defaulter’s Gallery.

If a media player is not available, a free alternative is the VLC Media Player suitable for computers and tablets.

The USB cards will plug into most modern TV’s or video recorder.  Older TV’s may require DivX format or DVD – both are available by contacting the Society Office.
