His younger brothers also served during World War II. Harry Bassett Emms (1912 – 1958) enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 3 July 1940 and served in the 2/40th Infantry Battalion. He was demobilized on 3 January 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Phillip Bassett Emms (1921 – 1989) served in the pre-war RAN Reserve and was mobilized for service on 28 August 1939. He served in a variety of ships during the war including the corvettes HMA Ships Ballarat and Geelong and the cruiser HMAS Hobart. He was demobilized on 20 December 1945 with the rank of Leading Seaman.
Francis Emms’s daughter (Mrs Helen Rae Laws) provided substantial family information in helping to complete this history of her father. Australian Archives provided details of service records.
