Barney Ogle’s book on the history of the Australian-built Corvette, HMAS MARYBOROUGH during WWII is fascinating reading. As well as documenting the history of this vessel during the period from keel laying to war’s end, he brings the ship to ‘life’ through the gallant men who served on her. Written history is so often only statistical data of time and events. Though these factors are important, the men who man the ships are equally important, as they are the soul of a ship and responsible for its destiny.
Barney Ogle has achieved a balance between the two areas beautifully and all who are interested in Corvettes or Naval History in general, cannot fail to enjoy his account of the wartime history of HMAS MARYBOROUGH.
