On 21 April 2022 we received a request from our dedicated member David Williams for help in identifying some objects from the corvette HMAS Wagga held in the City of Wagga Wagga Council Chambers. The wise men from our Boatshed scratched their heads and could not recall them so a request was sent further afield.
Dick Budzienny from the HMAS Castlemaine Museum produced a copy of a page from BR320A on ‘Lights and Markers’ which appears to identify these objects. With this picture further advice was sought from our centenarian, LCDR Marsden Hordern OAM, who served in Fairmiles. He recalled this harness with the light attached being used in small ships at night during rough weather when hands were required on the upper deck. They were well regarded as an additional safety measure in recovery of Man Overboard. This is further supported by Mr George Maver from Queensland who served in corvettes during WWII.
The above is just a small example demonstrating the value of our network.
