(Ed. HMS Sirius was the first flagship of the Navy in Australia and has close connections with the Royal Australian Navy. Garden Island was allocated to the ship as a garden and was originally named Sirius Garden Island. The two cannon which formed the Garden Island Battery are believed to have been landed from HMS Sirius before her last voyage.)
